Is Your Kitchen Flexible?
We all need a little flexibility in life. We are constantly reminded to keep our joints flexible. The most successful people are those with flexible schedules. The ability to bend, adjust, and accommodate reduces a lot of the stressors in life. So why should your kitchen be any different?
Working parents juggle work schedules, extracurricular activities, and homework. How many times have you been called to the den while trying to cook dinner? Wouldn’t it just be easier to have a study area in the kitchen? The kitchen table is not always the best place to study. Consider tucking a small desk into a corner or tossing beanbag chairs and pillows into nooks for comfort.
If your home is small, your kitchen may have to double as a workroom. Your kitchen table may be the perfect place to create that scrapbook, but what about the mess afterward? Consider designating certain kitchen storage areas for craft supplies. This will decrease cleanup time and increase creativity.
A breakfast bar is a wonderful way to increase flexibility in your kitchen. No need to remove the puzzle from the table; just hop on a stool to fuel up for the day. The bar also makes an excellent work area that will save your back—no more bending over and squinting. Your straighter posture will diminish shadows and lower your chiropractor bill.
What about the work areas in your kitchen? Are they flexible? With a few storage or mounting devices, you can easily convert your toaster or coffeemaker area into a combo baking area. This will free up work space and prevent spills. Canister and small-appliance space can often be compressed with a little creativity.
Flexibility is a great tool for making a lot out of a little. Brainstorm ways flexibility can reduce the stress and increase the productivity in your life.
