Kitchen Collaboration

The design and structure of a workplace should be conducive to the tasks to be performed. No one wants to work in an untidy, disorganized atmosphere. Why should your kitchen be any different? If you have to fight with your kitchen to provide meals for your family, you will begin to hate what is meant to be an enjoyable experience. Consider the following ways of enhancing kitchen collaboration.

Lighting
Do you find it difficult to see in your kitchen? If you are expending too much energy second-guessing your next move because you are not sure of what you are seeing, you are wasting time and resources. You may need to consider a better lighting system for your kitchen. Simple under-the-cabinet, plug-in fluorescent light fixtures may do the trick.

Storage Space
Do you have ample storage space, or are you always battling your way through an assortment of pots and pans to find the one you need? Consider installing extra cabinets if you need more storage space, or store your unused items in another place.

Countertops
Are your countertops cluttered? Consider organizing your cabinet space to hold more countertop items. Better yet, sort through your cooking utensils and discard what you do not use or store unused items in the pantry. Once you remove some of the clutter in your kitchen, it will be easier to get things accomplished in a timely manner.

Organization
Where are your cooking tools and ingredients in relation to your work area? Do you have to walk halfway across the kitchen just to get the spices for your meal? Keep your tools and spices handy by storing these items close to your work area. You may need to rearrange your storage setup or add small storage units, such as spice racks or utensil holders.

Assistance
It is possible you just need a little assistance. Children love working in the kitchen and creating things. Get your family involved in the meal preparation process. Older children can chop vegetables and mix simple dishes. Younger children can set the table and arrange condiments. At first, training your crew may seem like extra work, but once your family becomes acquainted with the kitchen, you will have more time to concentrate on meal preparation.

Whatever methods you put into action, be sure to create a happy and healthy atmosphere in your kitchen. It should be a place of cooperation and for refueling the body and the mind.
